Food allergies occur when the immune system mistakenly identifies a harmless food protein (allergen) as a threat. In response, the body produces specific antibodies to attack the allergen.

In immediate reactions, the immune system produces IgE antibodies, which trigger the release of histamine and other chemicals, leading to symptoms like hives, swelling, or anaphylaxis within minutes to hours after exposure.

In delayed reactionsIgG antibodies are involved. These responses can take hours to days to develop and may cause symptoms like fatigue, digestive issues, or inflammation.

For some individuals, elevated IgA antibodies may indicate gut-related issues, such as inflammation or damage to the intestinal lining, often associated with chronic conditions.

The type of antibody produced determines the severity, timing, and nature of the allergic reaction.
